The Bears are playing Wests at 6.30pm on Friday night at Campbelltown Stadium. It's free to get in. At 8pm Wests and Parramatta Premier League are playing.

Bears line-up
1 Joel Bennett
2 Matt McDougall
3 Daniel Phillips
4 Blayne Davis
5 Ryan Wilson
6 Blayden Baird
7 James Maloney (c)
8 Blake McLean
9 Sean Bovis
10 Tupou Peaua
11 Mick Morris
12 Arnold Mano
13 Chris Dears

14 Tala Ah-Fa
15 James Vainakolo
16 Michael Jones
17 Anthony Delaivuna
18 Jason Saliba
19 Pio Rokomaqisa
20 Mafi Lolohea

- It's interesting to see that they have given the captaincy to Maloney. Also Ryan Wilson should add a bit of size and experiance to our backline.

The Magpies haven't won either of their games so it is a good opportunity for a win for the Bears so we remain in the Top 8.

Is anyone planning on going to this match?

Here is the Wests line-up.

1 Donald Thompson
2 Nick Taylor
3 Warren Williams
4 Teason Fa'avae-Eli
5 Nua Alone
6 Jarrod Roberts
7 Aaron De Gois
8 Kosta Kouparitsas
9 Ian Farnsworth
10 Fa'atoa Asa
11 Jessie Mileto
12 Ryan Owen
13 Tyler Aitken

14 Adam Robert-Aps
15 Stephen Harding
16 Chris Standing
17 Daniel Bandiera
18 Paul Rappo
19 Ashley Haare
20 Falanuu Akeripa

Watch out for Jessie Mileto who played for the Bears last year.
Also watch out for Aitken, Williams, Koupa, De Gois and Taylor - who i have heard are their best.

The Magpies made the Top 8 last year but have lost most of their best players to Premier League.

It was a pretty good performance from the Bears.

The starting line-up was unchanged. The bench players used were James Vainakolo, Mafi Lolohea, Tala Ah-fa and Michael Jones.

There was no score for the first 26 minutes. The Magpies made a couple of breaks but the Bears were always able to keep them out.
The first try came when Blayden Baird picked up a loose ball thrown by a Magpies player and ran 80m to score, palming off two defenders on the way. James Maloney converted. 6-0.
Near the end of halftime a Magpies player whacks Blake McLean in the face and opens up his cut, which he had received in round 1. McLean was fuming about it and he didn’t play any further part of the match.
Right at halftime Matt McDougall scored in the right corner when he dived on a grubber from James Maloney. Maloney converted and the Bears were leading 12-0.

13 minutes into the second half the Magpies scored from a grubber kick. 12-6.
With 9 minutes left the Magpies were attacking the Bears line when McDougall takes an intercept and races 70m to score. If he didn’t take it the Magpies were looking likely to score. Maloney converted the try. 18-6.
Right on Fulltime Maloney puts in a kick that is toed forward by Joel Bennett and he dives on it to score. Maloney converts and the Bears win 24-6.

The Bears did very well in defence to continually shut the Magpies out. But the Magpies had quite a bit of dropped ball (partly due to strong tackles). The Bears made a few errors as well; hopefully we can cut them out.

But based on the performance against Wests I think we will go quite well this year. The win consolidates our position in the Top 8.

There were many players who had good games – nearly all of the starting side. I think the standouts were:
Arnold Mano – his aggressive runs made us many metres – also good in defence
Joel Bennett – safe at the back and great from kick returns making some breaks
James Maloney – accurate kicking game and directed the side around well
Michael Morris – strong defence

Great result for the Jersey Flegg Bears.

And a great effort from Girvie to go out to Campbelltown to watch the game.

I was in the area already during the day so it wasn't too far.
