Yet another weekend where NS's two teams play at separate grounds. Premier League plays on Sunday at Campbelltown, while Jersey Flegg plays on Saturday at Belmore.

The details for the VB Premier League in the Big League are:

Round 25: Western Suburbs Magpies v North Sydney Bears
Venue: Campbelltown Stadium
Date: Sunday 29th August
Kick-off: 12:50 pm

North Sydney's team is:

1. Paddy WILLIAMSON (no. 13 last week)
2. Tristan RAMSAY
3. Christian HILL
4. Tarei McKENZIE (not originally listed last week, but scored a try)
5. Andrew BEATTIE
6. Nathan SMITH (not originally listed last week, but scored a try and 2 goals)
7. Matt ROSE
8. Brad McLEAN
9. Ben FISHER (c)
10. David LETELE
11. Clint COURTNEY
12. Namila DAVUI (no. 4 last week)
13. Matt THURSTON (no. 6 last week)

Interchange
14. Damon NOBLE
15. Wayne McDADE
16. Nathan FERGUSON (back after missing last week)
17. Josh MILLS (back after missing last week)
18. Michael CHAN (back after missing last 2 weeks)

Missing from last week's squad:

Scott McLEAN (no. 1)
Kurt BRYANT (no. 12)

Coach: Gary LARSON

NS faces Wests for the second time this season, and must be considered to be in with a strong chance after recent form (particularly against Souths) and also having beaten Wests by 22-16 at NSO in Round 7. WS is coming 13th, 6 pts ahead of 14th placed NS, so out of reach, but the Bears can certainly help finish the season on a high with wins in the last two rounds (v Cronulla at NSO next week, a team that NS beat 24-20 in Round 5).

This week sees the return of a few players, including two not originally listed last week but who nevertheless featured among the points scorers (Roy and HG would be impressed). The big selection surprise is Paddy Williamson at Fullback given that he is normally found in the forwards.

Results in 2003 and 2004 between NS and WS have been:

2003 Rd 5 at NSO: L 24-58
2003 Rd 13 at CT: L 20-40
2004 Rd 7 at NSO: W 22-16

There will be a JF game between WS and Newcastle at 11:10 - both clubs are still in contention for finals, but it would probably be better for NS if WS won (see below). At 3:00 there will be an NRL game between W-T and North Queensland. I understand W-T will be wearing 1980s style WS jumpers.

The details for the Jersey Flegg in the Big League are:

Round 25: Bulldogs v North Sydney Bears
Venue: Belmore Sports Ground
Date: Saturday 28th August
Kick-off: 3:30 pm

North Sydney's team is:

1. John RUSSELL
2. Josh LEWIS
3. James DONLAN
4. Sema MATAORA
5. Scott HEAP (no. 22 last week)
6. Bryce POISEL
7. Brett LAW
8. Bobby BRIGHT
9. Tim WOODBINE
10. Cheyne TICKLE
11. Lee TE MAARI
12. Mitch FINNIGAN (c)
13. Nathan WARD

Interchange
14. Jacob MARTIN
15. Scott CROSS
16. Ina PAPERA
17. Nathan WILSON
18. Ben FRYER
19. Mahana TAI (no. 5 last week)
20. Tane TUTAKI (no. 16 last week)
21. Michael JOHNSON (no. 23 last week)
22. Mitch ERICKSON (no. 19 last week)
23. Nathan FERGUSON (back after missing last week)

Missing from last week's squad
Nil

Coach: Josh WHITE

With just two rounds to go, NS has almost secured a place in the Top 8, but there are still three teams that could tip NS out - Illawarra and Newcastle (both 23 pts), and Wests (22 pts, but with a much inferior points difference compared with NS: -148 to -32). NS is curently coming 8th on 26 pts.

This week's game will not be easy, up against 2nd placed Bulldogs. But Penrith was coming 2nd last week, and NS came away with the win. This game is a stand-alone fixture as the Bulldogs NRL and Premier League sides are playing on Friday night.

The centre of the table is very tight, and while NS should be focussing on ensuring a position in the 8, it is still possible to finish as high as 5th:

5. Cronulla 29 pts (+120)
6. Parramatta 28 (+177)
7. Souths 27 (+33) [has a bye this week]
8. Norths 26 (-32)
*****
9. Illawarra 23 (+40) [has a bye next week]
10. Newcastle 23 (-6)
11. Wests 22 (-148)

Games involving the other TEAMS this week are:
CRONULLA v Central Coast (15th) (Sat)
PARRAMATTA v Penrith (3rd) (Sat)
SOUTHS bye
ILLAWARRA v Canberra (12th) (Sat)
WESTS v NEWCASTLE (13th) (Sun)

Jersey Flegg won 36-28 and are confirmed a finals spot Very Happy Laughing Very Happy Laughing Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

This is a magnificent achievement for a side with no NRL support and the celebrations were very emotional after the game.

Congratulations to Josh White and the Boys.

What an achievement!!! They have looked like a REALLY good team everytime I've seen them this year. I hope we can hang onto the vast majority of this team next year, should make our Premier League side alot better...

Great result for the boys.

Lets just hope now, that we can beat Cronulla next week and hope Souths get done so that we can finish in 7th position. As 8th position will be a very tough match against the Roosters who haven't been defeated all year and are a class above everyone in the JF competition.

If we could avoid the Roosters in the finals, I think we could make it deep in the final series. We've knocked off a couple of the top teams and can do it again in the finals.

What a great win, again sensational team effort and great defence. Surprised yet another top team. Maybe we can be the first to beat the roosters. You never know when it comes to the finals. Very Happy Very Happy

And the results:

Premier League
Western Suburbs 48 (9 tries, including 2 from M. Buettner; 6 goals) df
North Sydney 14 (Tristan Ramsay, Ben Fisher, Tarei McKenzie tries; Nathan Smith goal)

Jersey Flegg
North Sydney 36 (Josh Lewis 3, Tim Woodbine 2, Lee Te Maari, Sema Mataora tries; Scott Heap 4 goals) df
Bulldogs 28 (5 tries; 4 goals)

Not that it matters now given that the win guarantees that JF will play in the finals, but the results in the other games we were watching were:

CRONULLA 70 df Central Coast 0
PARRAMATTA 26 df Penrith 22
ILLAWARRA 36 df Canberra 12
WESTS 38 df NEWCASTLE 28
SOUTHS bye
