North Sydney plays a home game at Henson Park this Sunday, the opening game in the NSWRL's version of the Magic Weekend with a triple header of games:

11:00AM North Sydney Bears v Wentworthville Magpies
1:10PM Newtown Jets v Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles (live on Channel 9)
3:30PM St George Illawarra Dragons v Newcastle Knights

New Sydney Roosters signing Ryan Hall is on the wing for the Bears. We'd have to go back a while since we last had an England international in our team - or had the Burgess brothers been capped by the time they played for us? The Sydney Roosters game is on Friday night against Brisbane Broncos and four members of North Sydney's team - including Hall - have been named as reserves.

Match details are below.

Sunday 19th May 2019, 11:00AM
North Sydney Bears v Wentworthville Magpies

1. Kieran MOSS
2. Ryan HALL (no. 21 for Sydney Roosters)
3. Edward MURPHY
4. James TUITAHI
5. Bernard LEWIS

8. Poasa FAAMAUSILI (no. 18 for Sydney Roosters)
9. Bradley DEITZ
10. Max BAILEY
11. Fletcher BAKER
12. Thomas FREEBAIRN
13. Josh CURRAN

14. Sam VERRILLS (no. 19 for Sydney Roosters)

Ryan Hall is playing for Sydney Roosters tonight, so he won't be on the field for the Bears on Sunday. It's his first game since he did his ACL playing for Leeds Rhinos last August, just a few weeks after signing for the Roosters.

Hall is the only one of the four reserves to be named in the final 17 for tonight's game. The updated team list on the NRL website says:

"Daniel Tupou (neck) is out of Friday's clash due to the Roosters short five-day turnaround, with English recruit Ryan Hall named to replace him on the wing in what will be his first appearance since an ACL injury playing for Leeds last year. Brock Lamb dropped off the reserves list on Thursday. Sam Verrills was omitted an hour before kick-off."

I would have thought that Kepaoa would take Hall's place. He has been playing very well.

I wonder where Lachlan Lam is? Not named in either of Roosters or Bears teams.

The game is being broadcast by Steele Sports Radio - http://steelesports.com.au. I'm just back from a Sunday morning commitment and have tuned in for the last 15 minutes. North Sydney is up by 28-16.

There are a couple of changes to North Sydney's starting side:

19. Curtis Johnson in for 2. Ryan Hall
17. John Tuuivait off the bench and in for 8. Poasa Faamausili who has gone to the bench

The NSWRL website still thinks it's half time.

A good win to the Bears by the sound of it - 34 to 20. Six tries to four, including two tries each to both Tom Freebairn and Max Bailey.

The scoring suggests that Norths got off to to a quick start and held off a Wenty fightback. In the post match, the commentators said that in the early stages, Wenty dominated the attack but couldn't score. The said that Brock Lamb was man of the match.

NS try - Tom Freebairn 12'
NS conversion - Brock Lamb 13' - NS 6-0

NS try - Tom Freebairn 21'
NS conversion - Brock Lamb 22' NS 12-0

NS try - Max Bailey 27'
NS conversion - Brock Lamb 29' NS 18-0

Wenty try - Andrew Davey 40' NS 18-4

NS try - Kieren Moss 48'
NS conversion - Brock Lamb 50' NS 24-4

Wenty try - Stefano Utoikamanu 54'
Wenty conversion - Brad Keighran 55' NS 24-10

Wenty try - Rhys Davies 59'
Wenty conversion - Brad Keighran 60' NS 24-16

NS try - Brock Lamb 63' NS 28-16

NS try - Max Bailey 70'
NS conversion - Brock Lamb 73' NS 34-16

Wenty try - Greg Leleisiuao 74' NS 34-20

North Sydney Bears 34 (Tries - Tom Freebairn 12' 21', Max Bailey 27' 70', Kieren Moss 48', Brock Lamb 63'; Conversions - Brock Lamb 13' 22' 29' 50' 73') df
Wentworthville Magpies 20 (Tries x 4; Conversions x2)

The NSWRL website says that at half time it was 18-0, but that Wenty scored in the 40th minute.

Well spotted Fintain. Wenty scored after the siren and at half time it was 18-4 to the bears.

There were some really positive signs yesterday. We lost count of how many repeat sets the bears had to defend. For ten minute chunks of the match it was just line drop outs and holding Wenty players up in goal. Then as soon as we got the ball it was up the other end for points. When we did score it was a stroll over the line. Rip Taylor will no doubt spend the whole week on defence because Wenty were terrible. Credit where it's due to our forwards of course, you still have to take advantage of it.

It was nice to see Curtis play another match. I suspect it was a very late call up as I was the loudest in ground, so Col must have had other commitments Wink .

Thanks for the update. I was pleased to see Curtis get a run. I like your comment about Col - no one beats him for noise.

Who does Curtis play for when he's not picked for Norths?

He's been playing Ron Massey Cup with Asquith along with the other Bears squad members.
