I like the format.

It is a pity that some of the junior and senior trials are held on the same day at different venues.

Are you sure Newtown vs. Norths is for the Frank Hyde Shield. I heard that it might be played only over the 2 competition rounds.

Have not heard that about the FHS.

Their were a couple of reasons to not have the trial count towards the FHS:
* Each year Newtown has had the trial at their home ground and they have won each trial. This gives Newtown an advantage.
* Bears wouldn't have Melbourne players available yet Newtown have their Roosters players available.

Last year the Bears used 33 players which means they weren't axactly trying to win they were just using it to see how each player went.

Also, last year it wasn't even a proper match. There were no goal kicks taken.

I heard last year that the Bears had approached Newtown about having the FHS run over the two competition legs and i heard the Jets didn't have a problem with that. But I haven't heard if it was ever confirmed.

Big Steve , Are the SG Ball boys really playing at 6.30 this weekend against the panthers? Or is it a misprint? it seem pretty late for a trial game. It will be good for them to get a taste of footy under lights i guess though. So any way is it a misprint?

cheers

They would probably be playing the games later than normal so they can avoid the heat of the day during summer.

Is anyone planning on going to both the junior trials vs Manly and the Premier League trial in Windsor on the 4th of Feb?

Is anyone planning on going to both the junior trials vs Mount Annan and the Jersey Flegg trial vs Parramatta on the 18th of Feb?

Is anyone planning on going to both the 1st round competition of the Junior reps and the PL and JF trials against Canterbury? Hopefully junior reps would be on early enough to make it across.

The Newtown website says different times to the Bears website.

11/02/06
5:30pm Newtown PL V Norths PL - Henson Park
3:45pm Newtown JBC V Asquith JBC - Henson Park
2:00pm Roosters Flegg v Norths Flegg - Henson Park

Who is correct?

Does anyone know how the Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams went today against Penrith? Who won?

It was a pretty hot day today.

Which players were the stand outs?

Norths are a much more competative outfit in SG this year then prvious years. The first 20 min half end up being 1 try all. The second 20 Norths were blown away by the second team as Norths had the same team and penrith had a totally different team and after that there were 3 10 minute games which penrith won. But Norths were very competative through all the games. It was very hot conditions for the palyers so they were given regular breaks. Some players from flegg were playing such as siaosi liamanu, Tupou Peua and Nathan Searle.
Standouts for me were Liam Foran, Tupo Peau and another player which i couldnt recognise he was wearing a number 12 and was an inslander.

Norths this year in SG could be a real suprise package in the comp. They have much more structure in attack led by liam foran and really good defence. If Perith had 1 team it would have been a very close game. Penith have one of the best or the best team in the SG ball cup. Norths were very competative and I think on their day they could beat alot of the other teams.
