North Sydney Bears Junior Rep sides are taking on Parramatta in the first round of their competition. The games are being held at Cabramatta Sports Ground. Harold Matthews kicks off at 1.30pm and SG Ball starts at 3.00pm.

It will be a tough test for both sides as Parramatta are always one of the favourites to win both competitions.

Does anyone know if the Bears line-ups have been announced?

Hopefully i will be going to these matches to support our teams.

If anyone is interested here are Parramatta's squads for the year. I don't know their line-ups for this weekend.

Parramatta Eels HAROLD MATTHEWS SQUAD
1 - Ramis Amandel
2 - Timothy Auremi
3 - Anthony Brandusoiu
4 - Boyd Brown
5 - Matthew Fuimaono
6 - Daniel Galati
7 - Nathan Gardner
8 - Ben Golding
9 - Ellis James
10 - Joshua King
11 - Roger Langi
12 - Fredrick Latulipe
13 - Cecil Mackenzie
14 - Daniel Mahoney
15 - Folau Makoni
16 - Bruno Mitchell-Ngawaka
17 - Kyle O'Donnell
18 - Daniel Palaamo
19 - Karere Tamaariki-Amosa
20 - Olomanu Usini
21 - Jake Watson
22 - Leroy Williams

I don't know much about their side, i don't think any of them played Harold Matthews last year. Watch for Leroy Williams, who is apparently Sonny Bill Williams younger brother.

Parramatta Eels SG BALL SQUAD
1 - Jason Baitieri
2 - David Baumann
3 - James Brown
4 - Nathan Campbell
5 - Trent Hodkinson
6 - Taniela Lasalo
7 - Owen Lauofo
8 - Martin Lewis
9 - John Mannah
10 - Tim Mannah
11 - Joseph Mataele
12 - Fareni Moefaauo
13 - Luke Mottinelli
14 - Domenic Nasso
15 - Jesse O'Neil
16 - Timothy Robinson
17 - Alex Savaiinaea
18 - Cameron Speechley
19 - Nathan Tannous
20 - Taulima Tautai
21 - Jordan Tua'au
22 - Peter Wiggins
23 - Tony Williams
24 - Louis Yanz

Nathan Campbell was in the Bears SG Ball side last year. There are about 10 others who were in Parramatta's SG Ball side last year plus about 7 players who were in their Harold Matthews side.

Parramatta's SG Ball side finished 1st on the table in 2005 and their Harold Matthews side finished 3rd.

JUNIOR BEARS KICK OFF SEASON

On Monday night a proud and excited Greg Florimo was on hand to officially welcome the North Sydney Harold Mathews and S. G. Ball junior rep teams to the 2006 season.

Greg spoke of the great efforts that have gone in to get to this point and congratulated them for being selected in the world’s toughest junior competition. “We want you to take the opportunity and play every game to the hilt for yourself and for the Club. That’s what we’d like to see from you. I wish to see everyone of you some day play in the NRL, some of you hopefully in the Red & Black.”

Harold Mathews Coach Kevin Nichols then spoke of showing pride in playing for the bears and wearing the Red & Black before inviting each of his Harold Matts team members up to the dais to be presented with official training uniforms.

S. G. Ball Coach Michael Pobjie talked of his previous experience and how keen he is to make a success of the season. He then proudly introduced his players who were presented with they’re training kits.

Both teams will begin the season on Saturday 25th February at Cabramatta Sports Ground against the Parramatta Eels. Harold Matthews begin at 1:30pm while the S. G. Ball will start at 3:00pm. Also on Saturday evening the Premier League and Jersey Flegg sides trial against the Bulldogs from 5:00pm.

Congratulations and good luck to all players on the North Sydney Harold Mathews and S. G. Ball junior representational teams in 2006. Click HERE for the official team lists.

It was a tough day in the first round of Junior Reps against Parramatta.

Harold Matthews team was the same as listed above. I believe 14-20 all got a run from the bench.

First half was Parramatta 20 North 4.

The Bears scored through a bomb (I think it was kicked by Florimo) which was caught by Jaye Bass who offloaded near the try line for Josh Moses to score. Jayson Lombardo missed the conversion from near the sideline.

Final score was Parramatta 42 North 4.

I thought some of the better players were Casey Faets who made some important tackles, Sulaiman Underabi who provided some good go-forward from the bench, and Jaye Bass who was good at the back when he came on.

There were a few changes to the staring line up in SG Ball.
The starting line up was: Siaosi Liumauna, Pat Mataele, Jake Foster, Auatama Iese, Ryan Oldfield; Luke Cox, Liam Foran; Tim McDonald, Mitch Williams, John Faletau, Samuel Talanoa, Nathan Searle, Jamie Tonga.
Bench: Kimon Tellidis, Daniel Casa, James Hollis-Tuilau, Isaac Vaisagoti, Brock Harmer, Trent Cridland and Siaosi Ngu.

First half score was Parramatta 32 North Sydney 0

Final score was Parramatta 54 North Sydney 10.

The Bears first try came when Pat Mataele made a charging run down the right wing to score. The second try came at the end of the match when John Faletau gathered a chip kick from Liam Foran and ran 20m to score. Liam Foran converted the last try.

The best players for the Bears were probably Jake Foster and Jamie Tonga.

Both teams really need to get back to basics. It was simple errors that cost us. There was a lot of dropped ball. Too many missed tackles. Not enough aggression.

Most players did some good things on the field. Often we would have a good set and be making metres going up the field only for a player to drop the ball. Or in defence we would put on some good hits in the first few tackles of the set only for Parramatta to make a break and then score.

I know that there is heaps of improvement left in both sides. Parramatta is probably the toughest clubs we will play. So it is good to get them out of the way early. I’m sure the players will make amends next week against the Bulldogs.

For anyone interested, there are a couple of players who used to be with the Bears now with other sides.

Roosters
SG Ball – Stanley Waqa (HM 04)
HM – Dylan Nageshwar (HM 05)

St George
SG Ball – Brendon Vengoa (SG Ball 05, HM 04), Benjamin Vengoa (SG Ball 05, HM 04)

Balmain
SG Ball – Ben Falcone (HM 04)

Manly
SG Ball – Ben Uptin (SG Ball 06 train-on squad)
Harold Matthews – Brendan Lahoud (HM 06 train-on squad), Darcy Chivers (HM 06 train-on squad)

Parramatta
SG Ball - Nathan Campbell – (SG Ball 06 train-on squad, SG Ball 05, HM 04)

Canterbury
Harold Matthews - Beau Bovis (HM 06 train-on squad)

Central Coast
Harold Matthews - Brent Adams (HM 06 train-on squad), Jarrod Jacobs (HM 06 train-on squad)

What i meant was that both sides can improve a lot on that performance. They weren't playing to their potential.

Your kidding girvie

The SG Ball could not of played worse. There is only 9 rounds in this comp then the finals. When you consider the coach had the first team training back in November, do you think he can have the new side playing as a team by the semi's. IT MIGTH BE TO LATE THEN. What I saw on Sat was a side that need's a lot of ball work, there were players that did not know what was going on in set plays. One player did not know he was playing lock when a scrum was set & nearly missed it, you said the players starting line up changed on the day, do you think the coach is not sure of his starting line up.There is a spare spot in the side is he bringing in another player. There where some of the new players that seemed unfit, perhaps they should do the cooper park stairs, as the first team did. Cooper park was to be a call used in a game to lift the players, hard to use it when only 50% of the side have done it. The other thing that was missing was the on field talk ( perhaps they don't know each others names ,name tags at training could help) the coach put so much on this from the first training runs in November It's hard to understand that it's not there now. But he has only had this side for a few weeks. NOT A GOOD WAY TO START A SEASON IS IT.
The first team could have gotten beaten as well, but you won't know. Who do you blame for this poor start to the season, it can't be the players, must be the coach and the staff. Did Flo agree with all the change's that were made, or doe's he just let the coach's do what they want. You would think he would have some input into how the teams are run.

Well I certainly hope the lads have the potential to improve. Parramatta juniors are always strong but surely the boys will have to improve after their performance against Parra. Lets hope so.
In the S.G. Ball although working well in the last moments of the match ending the game on a scoring note, a lack of aggression in defence and a lack of team work and talk for the bulk of the match was their undoing.

“You can’t win football on your own” was the Coaches after match comment, “there are 12 other players out there with you, you’ve got to work together”.

The above comment was taken from the Northsydney bears web slte.
A lack of team work, and you've got to work together
The coach has got to be kidding he had a team that had train together for months as a team, he then rip's it apart starts over and then tells the players what they need, when he already had it. If this is HIS plan to victory, why did he have to change players. Norths surporters should ask questions. Remember it's your club.
It would be nice to know who was man of the match.
