Roosters team:

Troy Savage
David Pangai
Sam McCartney
Michael Lett
Shaun Kenny-Dowell
Jeremy Gordon
Anthony Watts
Dion Briggs
Lewis Brown
Jason Allwood
Frank Winterstein
Justin Horo
Rory Kostjaysn

Codie Medway
Nim Ngata
Brad Baldry
Rhys Pritchard
Jarrod Hogan

- This is a good week to play the Roosters because a lot of their players have moved up to PL.
- We need to watch out for their back; Lett has played NRL, Savage, Pangai and Kenny-Dowell have all played PL.
- I think our forwards need to rip in and we can dominate their pack who have lost their 4 best players to PL.

The Roosters beat us yesterday in Jersey Flegg the final score was 34-10. It was 22-0 at halftime. Some of the Roosters backs were hard to handle and they made a few breaks.

The Bears came back a lot better in the second half where it was 2 tries each. The Bears first try came when Matt McDougall put in a grubber kick that was spilled by the Roosters player in the in-goal and Chris Heasman was able to dive on the ball to score. Gavin Duncan converted. The second try came when Daniel Phillips was flying onto a short ball from Pio Rokomaqisa and Phillips broke through the defensive line to score.

I thought some of our good players were Mitch Erickson, Matt McDougall and Liam Foran.

From the Roosters website:

Jersey Flegg: Roosters 34 - Norths 10
Sunday, June 11, 2006

The Roosters have demolished Norths 34-10 in a dominant performance on Sunday afternoon at Aussie Stadium.

With only 1 loss this season, the Roosters were far too good for the Bears, who were never allowed into the contest.

The Roosters were brutal in defence and classy in attack, scoring some great tries, most notably a 100 metre effort by dangerous winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

The Roosters started brilliantly when fullback Troy Savage made a superb 80 metre break from a kick return.

Moments later, it was the front-rower Jason Allwood crashing over next to the posts. Winger Kenny-Dowall converted the try and the Roosters led 6-0 after 2 minutes.

Tough, windy conditions played havoc early on, with both sides dropping the ball on several occasions.

Norths had a chance to hit back when winger Chris Heasman [or Ryan Wilson] took an intercept and set sail fro the corner, but the Roosters cover was able to bring him down metres from the line.

Norths again looked dangerous after receiving a repeat set, but the Roosters defence stood firm to keep the visitors scoreless.

It was the Roosters time to turn defence into attack when Kenny-Dowall took an intercept from his own goal line and ran the length of the field weaving through the Norths defenders for a fantastic individual try. The winger converted his own try and with 20 minutes remaining in the half the Roosters led12-0.

Norths had a chance to hit back, but Savage was able to hold up an attacker over the try line in a strong try saving tackle.

With 9 minutes remaining the Roosters were over again when centre Sam McCartney used a strong fend to race over for a try. With the conversion missed the Roosters led 16-0.

Right on halftime, the Roosters no. 8 Dion Briggs steamrolled his way over for a powerful try next to the posts. With the try converted, the Roosters went into the break leading 22-0.

The Roosters dominated possession in the opening minutes of the second half and winger David Pangai was gifted a try under the posts after both the Norths winger and fullback had a mix up catching a bomb. The try was converted and the Roosters led 28-0.

With 20 minutes remaining, Norths were finally on the scoreboard when winger Heasman was able to dive over in the corner. The sideline conversion had them trailing 28-6.

With 5 minutes remaining, Norths were given a consolation try after repeated sets on the Roosters goal line. With time running out, Norths still trailed 28-10.

The Roosters hit straight back when replacement Nim Ngata stormed over next to the posts. Kenny-Dowall converted from close range to extend the Roosters lead.

Norths showed more resistance in the second half, but they were no match for the high-flying Roosters who ran out comfortable 34-10 winners.

The Roosters now travel away next Saturday afternoon to take on Wests.

****

The Roosters have a lot of depth to be able to beat us with a lot of their regulars out like Shaun Foley who was playing NRL and Mitch Pearce, Jeremy Gordon, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Danny Williams, Grant Millington and Mitch Aubusson in Premier League.
