On a related note, I started re-reading "The Mighty Bears!" last night. I haven't got through the intro, and I've picked up another inconsistency - Andrew Moore refers to Allen Arkey, while ERLP says Alan.

The 60th Annual eport and Financial Statement [1967] said the Alan Arkey and Jack Savage were elected life members during the year.

From page 13:
Alan's first Rugby League was played with Crow's Nest Central School [CNBHS before CNHBS] 43 to 45..........He represented Mosman district for three consecutive years in the President's Cup team.

Jack at the age of 16 played with Crows Nest Juniors C grade, of which he was captain........two years with Greenwich B grade.......Jack played 100 grade games with the club [28 to 36].

The trick now is to continue the list - by getting the Bears back into the top grade.

Wouldn't that be good!

No one wonder the blokes who compile these lists have trouble. I mentioned the spelling in an e-mail to Andrew Moore who said that he is pretty sure he got the spelling of Allen from Arkey himself. The Annual Reports may not necessarily be as reliable as you'd expect. I was at the Leagues Club yesterday and today and noticed that the plaque that accompanies North Sydney's "Internationals" spells Jimmy Devereux's surname "Devereaux".

Whilst just browsing through the list that brings back memories, it is interesting how the cream rises to the top. Harold Horder 50 games, 50 tries. Ken Irvine 175 games 171 tries. A try a game. Amazing

Fintan,

Check out this link http://www.nrlstats.com/archive/clubs.cfm?ClubID=9

You can click on each season and it gives a summary of players names, appearances, tries, goals, etc.

I'm sure you will be able to find out plenty first names of players from that link.

Here are some first names you didn't have just from 1909.
E 'Paddy' Boland
Arthur Bollard
Frank Courtney
Lance Hansen
Joe Hedge
Aney Morris (could they have made a typo?, more likely Andy Morris)
Bill Whitfield

1911
E 'Dutchy' Anderson

1918
Jim Dunworth

1919
Robert Dunworth

1922
H 'Mickey' Waterhouse

1928
Claude Blundell

1934
Noel Ferrier

1936
Sid Harmer

1940
Lester Hough
Walter Worrad

1941
Jim Francis

1942
Frank Seaborn

1945
Len Willan

1947
Tommy Grogan

1948
Allan Lawson
Max Sullivan

1951
Neville Massina

1966
Graham Willard

1968
Ray Beattie

(there will be others, i didn't search for everyone)

There is also a search function that will allow you to look for any players, although it doesn't always work for me.

That website may be able to help you with some of your questions.
eg, Jack Baker is listed as having played 1911-13 and then 1921-23 (with 1919-20 at Souths). You have him as two players.
J King 1912 + 1919 is listed as the same player.

You might find some conflict here.
eg you have 1947's Harry Wort, they list Harvey Wort.
Have fun!

Thanks Girvie - it's a great record. I've just started going through it. Glad to be able to fill in some details.

On a separate note, I sold some raffle tix to a Souths supporter on Saturday when Norths played Auckland. He told me that his grandfather was Reg Cook who played for Norths in the 1940s and whose claim to fame was scoring two tries in one afternoon at the SCG (against Souths I think he said). Unfortunately the PA in the Mollie Dive stand was blaringly loud and wasn't conducive to me asking many questions. Cook's details from the Preliminary List are:

156. Cook, Reg - 1947 [1] (5 games 2 tries 6 pts)

These clubs have listed their first grade players in order of appearance dating back to 1908:

Roosters - http://www.sydneyroosters.com.au/100...layer_list.php
> Balmain - http://www.weststigers.com.au/centen...layerlist.aspx

Thanks Girvie. It was the Sydney Roosters list, in particular the allocation of a number to each player, that gave me the idea of compiling a list of North Sydney's players. There was an article about it in one of my rugby league papers/magazines. I haven't done as much work on the NS list as I'd hoped, but I'll get back into it soon.
