These are great, thanks for all the work you've put in typing them up.

Is this a team from the suburbs of the same names? If so, what was it doing playing in the NS comp? If not, what's the explanation for the name? |

Fintan, i asked the very same on leagueunlimited.
According to a wiki on the Newtown junior league they wore Red and Blue.
It has to be the Newtown area suburb, as i have an annual report that lists the club champion of 1954 as St Peters [Newtown] and for the life of me i can't think/have never heard of a church in the area called St Peters [Catholic, Anglican or other]!
I'm sure the junior officials at St Peters fell out with the Newtown juniors over something, so for a year affiliated with another District league-which was unusual but not forbidden as such. That they never appeared again in the record of the NSDRLFC enforces that view for me. I wish i had the annual report from Season 1954 or 1955 to explain.
and having a quick look at the SMH's in 1954 isn't helping.

the most historic one will be Berowra A Grade and Berowra C Grade (19s) beating the Manly teams of 2008..thefirst time a North Sydney A Grade side has ever done it.. |

Reading some of the article around the period, seems while ALP-DLP split may have been news in Qld and VIC, Newtown District JRLFC was having a simlar drama.
A tender for Henson from the juniors didn't go thru the District club first, the Senior club cut the 'rebels' off, [the 'rebels' being the majority of the junior league!] they started a 'scab' comp then the remaining loyal clubs had such a small comp that they looked outside the district for competition for the one year until peace, hence St Peters to NS after Wests rebuffed them? |
Thanks, interesting stuff. My brother was involved with St Peters JRLFC in the late 1990s - there's a bag at my mother's house which is blue and red so I assume it's the same St Peters. Was St Peters loyal or rebel? Your first post says it had a run in with Newtown District, but your second one says that the loyal clubs had to look elsewhere as there weren't enough clubs to form a comp. How many clubs were loyal and how many were rebels? Did all the loyal ones play in North Sydney?
Breakaway leagues pop up from time to time - I wonder if anyone has documented them? |

a fine example is also when clubs play in another district and then change back.. I think it was 2005 when North sydney and Manly joined their Junior leagues..It should be called Norths/Manly junior comp, instead most in the press refer to it as Manly Juniors..this comp happens from U13s up,..I'm sure once the CC Bears are up.. and amalgamation should begin straight away, if not sooner... |

"But only one of previous eight junior clubs (St Peter's, with four teams) remained [loyal to the official junior league?], and there was one new club, Dulwich Hill"
Fintan,
My first post was a guess before i read the articles. I think my second analysis is correct-do more reading i'll know for sure but it seems to me that St Peter's were pretty much it, that the other 7 clubs sat out the season from the official body. St Peter's were the only team left, so the official junior season got cancelled, St Peter's wandered first to Wests and go a no, then to us and got a yes? |

Just to add one more thing. St Peters traditionally wore blue and cerise. A friend of mine was involved with them in the 1960s and 1970s and he had family involvement going back before.
The reformed St Peters adopted the name Knights (like Newcastle) and wore blue and red. |

Kodiaks,
When I played in the Juniors in the late 1960's there were often joint competitions between Norths and Manly. As a matter of fact two Easts junior teams played in the D grade comp in 167or 68. They were Paddington Colts and Paddington United.
If I recall correctly the 1967 the C grade comp in which I playd was Asquith, Lane Cove, Crows Nest, Marist Bros and Mc Mahon's Point (Norths) and Allambie Heights, Belrose, Balgowlah,Christian Bros and Narrabeen (Manly). |

Rabbitohs have signed former Cronulla, Penrith, Parramatta and Dragons prop Clint Stapleton from Salford for the rest of the year.
Good news after Geddes and Ross appear to be out for the season. |

northern,
the Season 1967 Annual Report [which could be wrong, because one year i have has been proof read by a blind man] has C grade as:
"North Sydney conducted ther own C grade competition, with 6 team affiliating................
Competition table finished:
Mosman P-15, W-12, L-3, PF-233, PA-87
Collegians P-15, W-12, L-3, PF-174, PA-104
Crows Nest P-15, W-6, L-8, D-1, PF-100, PA-145
Asquith P-15, W-6, L-8, D-1, PF-151, PA-199
Lane Cove P-15, W-4, L-9, D-2, PF-119, PA-155
McMahon's Point P-15, W-2, L-11, D-2, PF-75, PA-162
First Semi 19/8: Asquith defeated Crowie 11-5 at Mosman Oval
Second Semi 19/8: Mosman defeated Collegians 19-13 at Mosman Oval
Final 26/8: Asquith defeated Collegians 8-7 at Mosman Oval
Grand Final 3/9: Mosman defeated Asquith 13-4 at North Sydney Oval.
Both the B and D grade for 1967 were run as joint comps between Norths and Manly. In the B's 5 teams each, in the D's Manly 5, Norths 3 teams.
D grade 1967 was: Harbord, Lane Cove, North Curl Curl, Forestville, Avalon, Hornsby, McMahon's Point and Christian Bros
So presumably it was 1968 with the Easts teams. I have the Easts Annual Report from 1967 as well, and they ran a D grade comp of 7 teams-Premiers Bronte RSL. The Easts report are less informative generally, and statements like "It is most pleasing..... to report that the Junior League was able to recommence full funtioning in the 1967 season" indicates that the Easts juniors was fragmenting towards the stronger Souths comp and other like Norths as early as the 1960's.
