Only one game this week with Jersey Flegg getting a bye and an easy 2 points, but that's not the reason I'm late with this week's update, I've been caught up doing other things.

The details for the VB Premier League in the Big League are:

Round 22: Canterbury Bulldogs v North Sydney Bears
Venue: Sydney Showground
Date: Sunday 8th August
Kick-off: 1:10 pm

North Sydney's team is:

1. Michael CHAN
2. Tristan RAMSAY
3. Christian HILL
4. Scott McLEAN
5. Andrew BEATTIE
6. Nathan SMITH (back after missing last week)
7. Matt ROSE
8. Brad McLEAN (no. 14 last week)
9. Ben FISHER (c)
10. David LETELE (no. 8 last week)
11. Paddy WILLIAMSON (back after missing last 2 games)
12. Namila DAVUI
13. Matt THURSTON (no. 6 last week)

Interchange
14. Kurt BRYANT (no. 10 last week)
15. Tarei McKENZIE (back after missing last week)

Missing from last week's squad:
Tim CASEY (no. 11)
Wayne McDADE (no. 13)
Damon NOBLE (no. 15)

Coach: Gary LARSON

NS again goes into a game with only 15 players, but even with such a small squad, there are still three players missing from last week, and three making a return - Nathan SMITH, Paddy WILLIAMSON and Tarei McKENZIE. Matt THURSTON is back in the pack after a week at no. 6. Given that JF has a bye, I half expected to see at least a couple of the Flegg squad included this week, in particular Sema MATAORA who is already signed by North Queensland for 2005, but JF has a difficult run of 4 games ahead of it to finish the season, so perhaps a week off is the better approach.

This week's opponent is the Bulldogs, a side currently coming 9th, just 1 point out of the Top 8, and battling with 5 and possibly 6 other clubs for the last two finals positions. NS and Canterbury played at NSO in Round 6, with the Dogs coming away with a 7 tries to 4 victory. With a finals place at stake, and home ground advantage, the Dogs will be difficult for the Bears, but this is a game that is not beyond NS to win.

Recent results between NS and Canterbury have been:

2003 Round 14 @ NSO L 12-50
2003 Round 16 @ Showground L 12-48
2004 Round 6 @ NSO L 24-36

The Premier League game will be followed by the NRL game between Canterbury and North Queensland Cowboys starting at 3:00 pm. PL will be preceded by the JF game between Bulldogs and Saints starting at 11:30 am.

**********
In Jersey Flegg, NS is back in the Top 8 following last week's "upset" win against Parramatta (only an "upset" because Parra was 4th whereas NS was 9th), and will retain its spot courtesy of this week's bye. The break is a useful lead into the four remaining games against Souths, Penrith, Bulldogs and Cronulla. (While it's good to have a bye at this stage, you've got to wonder why NS's Round 25 game against the Bulldogs wasn't switched to Round 22.) The table reads:

6. Cronulla (25 pts)
7. South Sydney (25)
8. North Sydney (20, -64)
*****
9. Illawarra (19, -4)
10. Newcastle (18, -34)
11. Canberra (18, -90)
12. Wests (16, -180)
13. St George (15, -159)
14. Manly (14, -170)

This week's games involiving these TEAMS are:

ILLAWARRA v WESTS (Fri)
NEWCASTLE v CANBERRA (Sat)
Penrith (2nd) v MANLY (Sat)
Bulldogs (4th) v SAINTS @ Sydney Showground on Sunday, 11:30 am
NORTH SYDNEY bye

Premier League lost 64-14 to the Bulldogs.

They were awesome for the first 35 mins then the dogs ran in two quick tries. It went down hill from there.

On the up side the Jersey Flegg opposition games all went perfectively for us.

Illawarra (our closest competition on 19) lost to Wests 18-14.

Our next closest competition was Newcastle and Canberra both on 18. They drew 30 all!!!

So after the bye The Bears are 3 points clear of ninth Smile

I couldn't believe the final score - the progress score that they gave on ABC Radio at the 25 minute mark was Bulldogs 6-0, and the next one about 10 minutes into the second half was 22-8.

The results in Jersey Flegg are great. I think both Cronulla and Souths lost. I might be wrong, but if I'm right, it means NS is only 3 points behind 6th place, with a game against Souths this week.

Lets hope our talented JF side can get in win in this week. A little concerned regarding NRL on General Section of Forum regarding PL and Flegg for next year if CC does not become 16th team.
