The last game of the season for NS in Premier League and one where the Bears will be looking to complete the double over Cronulla-Sutherland, having already beaten the Sharks in round 5. With Cronulla currently coming 9th and with a much inferior points difference compared with 8th placed Balmain, this may be the last time that Cronulla plays a PL game. Next season, Newtown will become Cronulla's feeder side in PL.

As for Jersey Flegg, the team is Finals bound, and has the chance of finishing 7th with a win over Cronulla (and the possibility of Souths losing to Canberra).

The details for the VB Premier League in the Big League are:

Round 26: North Sydney Bears v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
Venue: North Sydney Oval
Date: Sunday 5th September
Kick-off: 1:30 pm

North Sydney's team is:

1. Michael CHAN (no. 18 last week)
2. Tristan RAMSAY
3. Andrew BEATTIE (no. 5 last week)
4. Tarei McKENZIE
5. Scott WEBB (first listing for season - is on JF list, but hasn't played)
6. Nathan FERGUSON (no. 16 last week)
7. Matt ROSE
8. Brad McLEAN
9. Ben FISHER (c)
10. David LETELE
11. Clint COURTNEY
12. Namila DAVUI
13. Paddy WILLIAMSON (no. 1 last week)

Interchange
14. Damon NOBLE
15. Wayne McDADE

Missing from last week's squad:

Christian HILL (no. 3)
Nathan SMITH (no. 6)
Matt THURSTON (no. 13)
Josh MILLS (no. 17)

Coach: Gary LARSON

A few absences from last week's squad, including Christian HILL and Matt THURSTON for the first time this season. Coming into the side is Scott WEBB who played both JF and PL in 2003, but hasn't played either grade in 2004. This week is also Gary LARSON's last game in charge of PL after two seasons as coach.

Results in 2003 and 2004 between NS and WS have been:

2003 Rd 17 at Toyota: L 16-18 (last minute try to the Sharks)
2004 Rd 5 at Toyota: W 24-22

The details for the Jersey Flegg in the Big League are:

Round 26: North Sydney Bears v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks
Venue: North Sydney Oval
Date: Sunday 5th September
Kick-off: 12:00 noon

North Sydney's team is:

1. John RUSSELL
2. Josh LEWIS
3. James DONLAN
4. Sema MATAORA
5. Scott HEAP
6. Bryce POISEL
7. Brett LAW
8. Bobby BRIGHT
9. Tim WOODBINE
10. Cheyne TICKLE
11. Lee TE MAARI
12. Mitch FINNIGAN (c)
13. Nathan WARD

Interchange
14. Jacob MARTIN
15. Scott CROSS
16. Ina PAPERA
17. Nathan WILSON
18. Ben FRYER
19. Mahana TAI
20. Tane TUTAKI
21. Michael JOHNSON
22. Mitch ERICKSON

Missing from last week's squad
Nathan FERGUSON (no. 23) - playing PL this week

Coach: Josh WHITE

An almost unchanged line-up this week, with the only change being the absence of Nathan FERGUSON who has been promoted to PL. Otherwise, not a single alteration to the side that beat 2nd placed Bulldogs to secure a place in the Finals. There's probably not much to be said this week - NS is looking for its 6th win in a row to finish the Home and Away season. The two sides played in Round 5 and Cronulla won by 26-6. The Sharks are currently coming 5th, 3 pts ahead of NS, and looking for a top 4 finish, so it should be a good game.

NS can improve its position on the table by beating Cronulla and if Canberra beat Souths at Canberra on Saturday afternoon. NS's opponent in the finals will be either Sydney Roosters (50 pts), Bulldogs (34 pts, +159) or Penrith (34 pts, +146). Therefore the games to watch are:

Canberra (12th) v SOUTHS (7th) (Sat)
PENRITH v Balmain (4th) (Sat) [Penrith need to win by 14 pts to move into 2nd spot]
BULLDOGS bye

Neither of my predictions of close games eventuated, but it was great to see NS play last Sunday. There were a few changes to both sides: in Premier League, no changes to the side listed in "Big League", but the match day program also listed Josh MILLS and Brendon SOLOMON and the ground announcer read out a third addition, Clint STOWERS - might have the spelling wrong there - first time he's been listed this season. I don't think Josh MILLS got game time, but the other four on the bench all did.

In Jersey Flegg, I don't think either Tim WOODBINE or Mitch FINNIGAN were read out by the ground announcer, and four players originally on the bench were in the starting line-up: Jacob MARTIN, Ina PEPERA, Ben FRYER and Tane TATUKI. John RUSSELL and Bobby BRIGHT were the other two missing from the starting line-up, but were on the bench. My notes suggest that six of the seven bench players got game time - Mahana TAI missed out. (Does JF allow six interchange players?)

The final scores:

Premier League
Cronulla 76 (14 tries; 10 goals) df
North Sydney 18 (Michael Chan, Namila Davui, Scott Webb tries; Nathan Ferguson 3 goals)
(Half time Cronulla 32-12)

Cronulla played with a reckless abandon as it had to win by 60 points to tip Balmain out of the Top 8. It fell short by 2 points, winning by 58.

Jersey Flegg
Cronulla 46 (9 tries; 5 goals) df
North Sydney 16 (Josh Lewis, Nathan Wilson, Brett Law tries; Scott Heap 2 goals)
(Half time Cronulla 16-10)

The results of the other games were known beforehand, which may have been why NS put in a very flat performance. Neither NS or Cronulla could go up or down. No excuse, but it does happen, although it didn't seem to affect the Sharks. For the record, the results were:

Canberra 30 lost to SOUTHS 36
PENRITH 18 lost to Balmain 22 [Penrith needed to win by 14 pts to move into 2nd spot]

Just thought you would be interested to know the ground announcer was none other than Greg Florimo.

I didn't know that, is there anything he doesn't do around this club?

Yep Smile He's been doing it at almost all the home matchs this year.

I'm determined to find him a replacement next year to give him a break.

But he really is good at it is'nt he.

Except he left the microphone on for most of the PL game. We heard many of his conversations.

To quote Henson Park Hornets "it's like God is speaking to you".
