Warm UP- You're On!

Dear 18th player,

As we roll into round 10 of the NSWRL Intrust Super Premiership, I would like to take a moment to have a close look at our team and our chances of taking out the title this year. But before I do that I want to look at the importance of our 18th player, you, to our team.
You were there last Saturday at Moss Vale to see a below par performance against the Tigers. The players know they have let themselves down and let you down. You were there the previous week at Homebush to see a mighty performance to beat the Bulldogs by 1 point. You have attended North Sydney oval over the years to cheer on the Bears with your son, your daughter, your mate, your mum and dad. You have run onto the field at full time and imagined the great Ken Irvine flashing down the sideline to score in the corner. You have kicked the match winning goal in front of the fig tree to win the game, just like Jason Taylor. You have stepped and swerved down the field to score under the posts just like Brett Dallas. You are Red and Black and you are part of the team.
You may not actually make a tackle or carry the football. You may not actually score in the corner and kick the winning goal, but you are as important on game day as any of the other 17 players. When the boys take the field next Sunday against Manly, we need you there. When our backs are to the wall and the Sea Eagles are pressing our line, we need you there. When we score a length of the field try which goes through 10 sets of hands, we want you there. When we sing the victory song at the end of the match, we want you there. You are Red and Black and you are part of the team.
The game v Manly is the start of a run of home games at North Sydney oval. Over the next 2 months we have 7 home games and we need our 18th player at every single game.
Now, onto the team. For me there have been a number of standouts for the Bears so far this season.
Skipper Ed Murphy has led with distinction and is a touch of class playing at right centre. He has a great ability to play 2 on 1 and reads defence as well as any centre in the game. Ed needs you at the game.
Prop Clayton Williams has played plenty of tough minutes in the middle of the field. His greatest strengths are his work rate and ability to control the ruck, especially against the big men. He is very difficult to tackle and leads from the front. Clayton needs you at the game.
Winger come back rower Tualatasi Tasi is a wrecking ball. He is near impossible to stop one on one and has enjoyed plenty of good ball playing outside of Ed Murphy. Look for Tualatasi to be up amongst the leading try scorers at the end of the season, but he needs your support at the game.
Every team is looking for that added advantage, that edge, to be successful. If you accumulate all of the little things, the 1% ers, and you do them exceedingly well, you are in with a chance to win the competition. Here at the North Sydney Bears we have a competitive edge. We have our 18th player, who is prepared to support our team through thick and thin, who is prepared to turn up to North Sydney Oval with their mates, and who is prepared to wear the Red and Black.
On Sunday 15th May at North Sydney Oval, there will be activities for the kids and of course the chance to win $10,000 through KICK FOR CASH (sms your name and address to 19977977) Don’t forget to get there early for the pre-game action, starting at 11.30am with the Northern Sydney Barbarians v Harbord in the u/17s, then the Tertiary League City v Country at 1pm.

Go the Bears
