Bears Battling For A Spot In Finals

The Bears kept their chances of a semi-finals berth alive after a solid win over the Manly Sea Eagles last weekend.

North Sydney burst back into the winner's circle with a 32-18 victory in round 20 of the NSW Rugby League ISP Cup at Brookvale Oval.

The Bears have now won both local derby games this season. General manager Greg Florimo said the team was very pleased and relieved.

"It was a good, strong performance from the boys," he said.

"It never really looked out of control; we controlled the match and we controlled the scoreboard for a nice, convincing win."

Florimo said the players upped their game.

"It was a lot better than last week," he said.

"We definitely had a better start this week and managed to score early, which put us in the dominant position.

"And our discipline was a lot better; we didn't give away silly penalties.

"We managed to control the ball and complete our set.

"We were a lot more polished.

"It was nice to turn it around and put in a consistent 80-minute performance."

Florimo said the standout players were Clayton Williams, Jack Gosiewski and skipper Ed Murphy.

The Bears play the Wyong Roos in round 21 on the Central Coast on Sunday.

Florimo said winning the next two games would put the Bears in a better position to make the semis.

Manly beat Newcastle 28-10 which means that with only five rounds left, we are 12 points clear of the bottom. Always a plus not to finish last. :-) Perhaps not very forward thinking, but anyway .....

"Semi finals" = last four.

We might make the finals, but our form is so up and down, we could either go our first week, or make the grand final. We're on 22pts, with Wentworthville (18) and Canterbury (17) right behind us. Canterbury has a game in hand.
