After a slow start, a good win to the Rabbitohs this evening. Souths stayed with its updated side, so Jennings, Tyrell and Kelly will be able to play for North Sydney for whom they were also named. North Sydney only named a squad of 17 so will need to bring in someone to replace Gosiewski who played NRL.

Hey Fintan, thanks for the info as always. You're a godsend to us who are overseas. The website is saying that they have show called Going Country on until 1900. Is there a special link I need to follow?

Only country music coming through on this link, but the HR twitter site at https://twitter.com/hawkesburyradio says it's being broadcast on streaming.interservs.com:8006/listen.pls. And it is.

A slow start to the Bears which saw us trailing 14-0 early on, but at half time it's 16-10 with tries to Moceidreke and Mauala.

Some notes:

2 mins - What a terrible start for the Bears. North Sydney concedes a penalty almost immediately after kicking off, Penrith gets great field position from the resulting kick, and scores a try shortly afterwards. Penrith 4-0.

8 mins - A second try after 7 mins, shortly after NS loses possession on the half way on the first tackle. A gap as big as the heads - a cliche, but a telling image. Penrith 8-0.

13 mins - Commentators note that Luke Kelly deliberately kicked for touch to give his forwards a break, even though the game is not even a quarter hour old.

14 mins - Penrith on the attack and looking dangerous but Moceidreke intercepts and gets the ball to halfway.

17 mins - Penrith's third try, a result of dominating possession. The commentators say NS's defensive line was like watching Moses part the Red Sea. Converted to make it 14-0.

24 mins - Tasi penalised for a block that prevents a Penrith player running through for a kick. Penrith make a mess of it as NS gets possession, followed by a penalty which puts NS well on the attack. Douehi almost scores, Deitz almost scores. What's described as a smart Luke Kelly kick finds Moceidreke in the corner. Penrith 14-4.

31 mins - NS finally finds some spirit. Breaks left and right, but scrambling Penrith defence shuts them down. One break from Miski is halted because play is stopped to allow Jason Clark to receive medical attention. Commentators say they're looking at his neck. He goes off for an HIA.

33 mins - NS's second try - to Fred Mauala who barged over on the first tackle from a tap. The commentators aren't sure that he got over but the try is awarded. Levido converts. Penrith 14-10.

39 mins - Penrith held up in goal. NS concede a penalty just before the siren. Penrith opt for the two.

A pretty good effort from the Bears, but not enough as we go down 24-16.

Second half
The opening period was pretty even, perhaps slightly favouring Penrith but characterised by some good defence from the Bears. Which is not to say that NS didn't have their own attacks that Penrith had to deal with.

55 mins - Penrith awarded a controversial try after the referee rules that NS stripped the ball and therefore played advantage. The main commentator was adamant the Penrith player just dropped it which seemed to be what the NS players thought because they just stopped. As one commentator said, you've got to play the whistle. Converted to make it 22-10.

58 mins - Dave Tyrell hit with a head high which fires up the Bears, although no one is on report.

63 mins - On the back of two consecutive penalties (one for the aforementioned head high) and some sustained pressure on the Penrith goal line, Adam Douehi scores under the posts. Levido converts. Penrith 22-16.

77 mins - Tasi isn't able to hang on to a cross-kick from Kelly which gives Penrith a 20m restart. Penrith also score at the other end, but Levido grounds the ball for a line drop out.

79 mins - Penrith gets a penalty close to the posts. 24-16.
