A short turnaround this week with a Friday night game against Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium. It's a curtain raiser to the Newcastle/Sydney Roosters NRL game. I'm very pleased to see the alignment between the NSW Cup and the NRL - I always seem to watch Canberra play the Gold Coast or someone whenever the Bears come to Canberra - I don't think I saw Souths play here once in ten years (I only go to NRL games when North Sydney plays in a curtain raiser).

Norths defeated Newcastle in round 6 by 22-10 and on paper, we should win, but the NSW Cup can vary enormously from week to week. Newcastle is also coming off a five day turnaround, and was beaten 32-6 by St George Illawarra last week in the final game of Sunday's triple header at Henson Park.

I still prefer the old days where a team would play every other team once before playing any team a second time. Whatever happened to that?

I haven't heard of any broadcast details. Steele Sports Radio only lists a Saturday game, while Fox is covering the early NRL. It's **possible** that Hawkesbury Radio will cover the game - www.hawkesburyradio.com.au.

Bloody hell, what happened here! A 32-14 loss after Norths led 10-nil after 19 minutes, although were trailing 16-10 at half time. Six tries to three. It sounds like the game against St George Illawarra where we just stopped midway through the second half. Except we seemed to have stopped earlier this time. But I wasn't there, my comments are based on the scoring. I listened to the round 7 game was broadcast, so I'm more informed about that one.

There were two changes to the starting side:

14. Sam VERRILLS came off the bench to replace 7. Brock LAMB (on the bench for Sydney Roosters)
17. John TUIVAITI came off the bench to replace 8. Poasa FAAMAUSILI

The two additions to the bench were:

19. Max ALTUS
20. Luca MORETTI

The scoring went as follows:

Norths try - Fletcher Baker 3' - NS 4-0

Norths try - Sam Verrills 18'
Norths conversion - Drew Hutchison 19' - NS 10-0

Newcastle try - Phoenix Crossland 22'
Newcastle conversion - Mason Lino 24' - NS 10-6

Newcastle try - Phoenix Crossland 27' 10-all

Newcastle try - Christopher Randall 36'
Newcastle conversion - Mason Lino 37' - Newcastle 16-10

Newcastle try - Phoenix Crossland 48'
Newcastle conversion - Mason Lino 50' - Newcastle 22-10

Norths try - James Tuitahi 55' - Newcastle 22-14

Newcastle try - Mitchell Andrews 65' - Newcastle 26-14

Newcastle penalty goal - Mason Lino 71' - Newcastle 28-14

Newcastle try - Tautau Moga 75' - Newcastle 32-14

Newcastle Knights 32 (6 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalty goal) df
North Sydney Bears 14 (Fletcher Baker 3', Sam Verrills 18', James Tuitahi 55' tries; Drew Hutchison 19' conversion)

And I think the match report said Knights had a few more tries disallowed so could have been worse....losing Lamb obviously didnt help but Verrils a good player although more used to hooker...have to get those game heads on next week gonna be awfully tough game vs Mounties
